Line Editing

Line editing focuses on your writing style and the way your story is told. By looking closely at language at the sentence level, I work to enhance your narrative flow, smooth out your prose, and ensure your voice comes through clearly throughout your entire manuscript.
What I look for:
• Pacing and tension: ensuring scenes move at the right pace and hold the reader’s attention.
• Dialogue and flow: making conversations sound natural and checking if sentences transition smoothly.
• Word choice and repetition: identifying overused words or areas where description can be tighter and providing alternatives.
• Tone and voice: preserving your distinct writing style and voice throughout the narrative.
What you receive:
• A Word document with Track Changes for in-text alterations and marginal comments with actionable suggestions (e.g. for sentence structure, word choice, pacing, etc.).

Copy Editing

Copy editing focuses on the technical accuracy and readability of your work. By fine-tuning the mechanics of your writing, I work to correct grammatical errors, ensure internal consistency, and polish your prose so your story is clean, professional, and free of distractions.
What I look for:
• Grammar and mechanics: correcting errors in punctuation, spelling, syntax, and tense.
• Internal consistency: checking that character details, timelines, worldbuilding and more remain consistent throughout.
• Formatting: standardising capitalisation, hyphenation, numbers and basic layout.
• Clarity: catching confusing or ambiguous sentences or phrasing.
What you receive:

This package combines the stylistic focus of a line edit with the technical aspect of a copy edit. It is ideal for authors who want to refine both their style and ensure their text is mechanically sound in one thorough process.
What I look for:
• All elements of Line Editing: pacing, dialogue and flow, word choice, and style.
• All elements of Copy Editing: technical accuracy, internal consistency, formatting, and clarity.

Proofreading

Proofreading is the very last step before publication or formatting. The book has already been thoroughly edited and is ready for a final check at this stage. I perform a final quality check to catch any lingering mistakes in your manuscript.
What I look for:
• Missed typos: checking for spelling errors, accidental double spaces, or missing punctuation.
• Grammatical slips: spotting minor issues that were overlooked during previous revision rounds.
• (Formatting: fixing paragraph indentations and other minor layout glitches.)
